SP purchased a significant amount of fuel oil from Standard Oil Company of California, and took delivery of said fuel oil in a number of western states outside of California. This led to a lawsuit when the State of California challeged the "no sales tax" nature of these out of state deliveries.

The oil in this case was delivered in the later 1930s, but the appeals were finally settled in 1944!
