One of the reasons-----and there were multiple reasons IIRC-----that the plant shut down was because the locals screamed about emissions of something that involved chromide------I'm too lazy to go back and google all of this etc-------but there was some emission problem that the citizens of the area objected to as cancer causing . At the same time, up in Santa Clara county at the old Kaiser Permanente cement plant (owned by the same company, Cemex) there were similar allegations and there is an on-going major war up there as well. I'm sure there are many people here who can clean up my "facts",omissions etc.
I have no idea what they would do with that plant and of course there must be a ton of environmental issues that need to be dealt with in terms of "clean up" and etc. etc. etc. Nothing is every simple.
