To Tony & Rich Hunn regarding a museum @ El Toro MCAS, what would " The Real Housewives of Orange County " have to say about this most un - yuppie - ish idea ??? I was born & raised in Orange Co., back when it still HAD oranges; I was fortunate to leave when all the debate over the future of the base was just beginning. I recall the outrage over a proposal to convert the base into a civilian air freight facility & new Federal jail. Much like the NorCal yuppies who are fighting a certain railroad's reopening, these whaa - hoos move in near a noisy Marine Corps Air Station, ( established in 1945 ) and then @#$%& about the noise !!! A similar group of NIMBY's, living in Back Bay Newport Beach, are responsible for noise restrictions @ John Wayne Airport. ( Established in 1940 as a Army Air Corps airfield. ) I just can't see how something as dirty, smelly, & noisy as a Train Museum will fit into the current scheme of things in " The Real " Orange Co.
To BOB2, I agree with your comments regarding pooled insurance; several Modular Model Railroad clubs in Orange Co. did the same in the early 1990's. It is a workable solution to the ever - rising cost of playing Choo - Choo. As to your comments regarding the SBRHS, I recall a time in the not - too - distant - past when that acryonm was referred to as the " Scott Brittin Railroad Hysterical Society. " I will freely admit to never having met the man, but he must have left quite an impression on some folks... Perhaps the Society is better run nowadays, but WHEN do they run ??? Like most people, I wanna see Choo - Choo; otherwise how do I know they exist ???
