Snow Lingers Long on St. Paul Pass

Sorry, no photos of Joes in the snow here. Just a little reminder for those who come to visit northern Idaho during the spring months searching for MILW remnants, including perhaps a bike or hike on the Route of the Hiawatha trail.

This couple from Oklahoma made a classic mistake of relying only on a map and not taking into account the potential for winter road conditions at higher elevations, even during the supposed "springtime" months. Their map was showing they could drive from Avery east over St. Paul Pass to rejoin I-90 into Montana. However, it was early April. I have been at the summit of St. Paul Pass, on the forest road high above the MILW summit tunnel, in the early days of July and there was still a couple of feet on the ground.

Be safe out there...
