The Chumstick cutoff was opened to traffic in 1928. Not sure how long the dam and powerhouse remained in service. Perhaps to the end of electrification in 1956? The primary reason the main drag is so wide and flat in central downtown (overstatement?) Leaveworth, is that is where the yard was located. The packing houses were east of there.
