Oh, Carol----
The caboose once located behind the San Carlos St. store migrated out to Al Smith's property on Winchester, near Vasona Jct. He used it as an office for his accountant, the late Orlin Gire.
In early 1980, Smith bought a lateral file from us (Curtis Lindsay Inc. in those days)and I got the privledge of wrestling it in by way of the steps and in thru the door. To this day, I bear the scar from that---I gave myself a hernia getting it in.
The hack was later moved to the ranch at Swanton where it remains today.
As for the store itself, it is a hodge-podge of add-ons and remodels and kindness to old buildings requires it to be put out of it's misery. So Middlebrook wants the boxcar and wants to repaint it it? With what? The Norman Mineta Transportation Institute logo and a car size photo of Diridon?
