UP has for the last few years been repainting a lot of their 4-axle units. The work is done at Jenks Shop in North Little Rock. Some mechanical and electrical work is also done, but it's not been consistance. In most cases, at least the horrible overloading and resulting wheel slip problems typical of GP15s are corrected. But a lot of the units are simply worn out, and the shiny paint doesn't resolve that.
The Y593 isn't popular with UP crews on jobs that have more than two people, since one of the cab seats has been removed, and repeated efforts over the last six months or so to get one installed have been unsuccessful.
