I am a great fan of Garrett locomotives and find it amazing how big some of them were. Note that the engine in the photo is running on 42 inch gauge track. The Garrett on the Puffing Billy railroad near Melbourne, Australia runs on 30 inch gauge track which is the same gauge as the Portland Zoo Railway while the Welch Highland Railway runs several on 24 inch gauge. I had a chance to ride on double-headed AD-60 class 4-8-4+4-8-4 Garretts on the New South Wales system in Australia. Hard to top the sound of quadruple Northern's working up a grade with a coal train. Can't wait until the 4029 (AD 60 class) is returned to service next year in Australia.
