Good idea! Too bad they forget to teach much about WW2 in public schools anymore.
But ten times more important, would be to learn what kind of political and social climate in pre-Hitler and pre-war Germany, actually led to it; especially how was it, that a "Parliamentary Democracy" such as Germany, slithered into such a horrific totalitarianism in less than eight years.
It might be nice to get off that road while the gettin' is good; the sooner the better - if indeed we are on it. But an awful lot of people are seeing a lot of scary parallels - mostly older people - those who lived through it before - or those who were taught (me - for example) by those that lived though it before.
The generation coming of age now, and much of the previous one, couldn't tell you that NAZI is a contraction meaning "National Socialist" and that such socialists insist upon the "Supremacy of the State" and the servitude of the individual human; let alone anything about Adolf Hitler himself ("Adolf who?"); or the difference between the N.S.A. and the "Secret Police"......Oh hell! are we really so sure there is a difference!!!
Since so many don't know so muchin' fuch, I wonder if history will indeed repeat itself soon - sending another "Democracy" slithering down the slippery slope into an equally horrific totalitarianism.
In Germany, It started with power mongering politicians, using the heavy hand of government itself, to effectively silence all political opposition. For example: IRS targeting; IRS auditing of opposition candidates; Chrysler dealers being shutdown by Gov't order (95% of them republican), reporters being being bugged and hounded, donors to conservative causes being bullied and threatened and homes vandalized; and on and on an on! And let us not forget the "checkpoint charlies" in every American city, where you are detained and searched without any probable cause at all - that is, if you want to exercise the "PRIVILEGE" of traveling at all.
And just like pre-war Germany, money is literally being printed out of thin air - and law abiding citizens are being dis-armed wholesale - again, without due process of law!
Some of the parallels are already there - But how soon we have forgotten!
