The time one spends at their home terminal depends on how many out of town crews become rested and the number of trains that are run. All "out of town" crews would be used before "in town" crews, and because of the variables, it's not possible to say with certainty how the board would turn on any given day.
That said, SP made extensive use of double-ended pools. UP seems content on mostly using single-ended ones, likely because it typically requires less employees. And UP can always use "made up" crews at the away from home terminal, provided there's a source of supply. For example, that's what UP regularly does in Oakland.
