It's not a question of whether the employement there sucks. Rather, the current collective bargaining agreements expire at midnight on Sunday, and unless a tentative agreement is reached between now and then or a "cooling off" period is established, a strike or a lockout is legally permitted by either side. The same thing is possible at the end of each furture contract period.
It's also important to remember that this is much more than just an issue of the employees - who on average make in the $80,000/year range - wanting a raise. There are a whole slew of issues on the table, from both sides.
