I have a couple of books with photos showing that GNs 4-8-2 locomotives were assigned to passenger trains serving Portland and Seattle. One of the books also has a photo of a GN R-2 Mallet on a freight heading east out of Seattle.

If you can find steam-era photos of GN's Interbay roundhouse, that would help show which kinds of locomotives were assigned to trains serving Seattle.
