The UP ETT I have (# 04 OCT 25, 2010) shows the line as being mostly dark in that area for long stretches BUT there are signals in the vicinity of the sidings. A weird back-and-forth mix-match of ABS protection and dark track. I can't think of too many examples on the UP where I've seen that. Sounds like they yanked out or deactivated the ABS signals on the long stretches and only kept it at the extremeties of the meeting and passing sidings.
All in an effort to save money, of course.
