Not so sure about that, I have a couple of SL-SF builders poses of 4100 class Mikes
and they are of the left hand side...and rods down too.
I knew of at least one roster taker back in the days of steam. He was a rail and used
his job to help get cooperation from hostlers of other roads. He'd get the same locomotive
on one side in the morning, rods down, and then return in the afternoon to catch the sun
low on the other side. And it frequently was rods down once again. That guy was the late
Harold Stewart.
