The FRA won't permit GPS to take the place of track circuits 100% because without track circuits, there is no broken rail protection. You want to encounter a broken rail at 150-odd mph?

The RRs and grandstanding pols need to take a step back and realize that after 1985, the management bottomliners gradually destroyed the employees' 150 year-old work ethic which had been handed down from generation to generation.

As another poster has said, if you want to end train crashes once and for all, stop running the trains. If you never want to get hurt, stay in bed, although this isn't an iron-clad guarantee either because about 50-60 years ago some woman in the midwest got smacked in the thigh by a meteorite while she was actually in her bed.
