Re: Grain export traffic.... in the tank?

Without further investigation, I can offer this brief armchair observation before I head off to work. Grain from the Dakotas that comes west on CP then south right behind my house in north Idaho on UP has been nearly non-existent for the past month. Down a bit on nearby BNSF too. My neighbor, a retired BN-era fireman, has a son who runs their family wheat farm near Havre, MT. They've been hampered all summer by rain and cool temps. Very different scenario than the grain country further west. Wheat fields surrounding me on the Rathdrum Prairie are just now ready for harvest. Harvest is currently under way in eastern Washington. It's usually not until September or later that the grain grown in the PNW accumulates enough to generate larger trains. Classic case, the elevators at Fairfield, WA, typically pump out five to ten loads a trip (once or twice a week) for UP's Plummer Turn during late July or August. But come late September, I've seen them swell to 27 cars, 40 cars, or more. Those counts can vary depending on what happened (or didn't happen) on the previous trip.
