Rearrangement of access to That Museum in Old Sacramento was a long time in developing, and was done along with construction of the new Amtrak platforms. So I suspect it wasn't Museum Money paying for (most) of the cost. Side point: since the dirty dirt track is no longer needed for Sac Southern/Museum access I wonder how long it will remain in place; when it's gone it will take away a light rail/rail crossing the RT paid good money for (the only spot on their system where there's a physical connnection to Real Rail) - the Bee columnists looking for everything bad about government operations (target rich environment...) will certainly make snide comments.

Amusing news stuff last week or 2: apparently Caltrans is now looking for space not too far from the Sacramento station to set up a maintenance yard for the Cap Corridor & San Joaquins. All the usual NIMBY and NOPE folks are having a field day, since with the downtown rail yards gone the only places that look promising have housing fairly nearby (bad from diesel emissions and other standpoints). I wonder why they don't do something down near Brighton or Polk, where it's still an industrial area, but that's probably too far away to be convenient.

I'm glad to hear that things are moving along for the S.C. Branch. If something useful can be done with the line (and make it at least partly self-supporting with freight service), it could serve as a prototype for other lines in the region.
