I haven't had time to go over the report so far, but all lead qualified units should have an event recorder and unless the batteries were pulled in all the units, at least one of them should have a speed recorded. I would like to see a list of engine numbers, MMA has quite a few of the former LMX units, those units, when I delt with them, had an auto drain feature that would activate and drain the water from the unit if the batteries were ever completely disconnected, so normally the batteries were not pulled leaving the auto dump feature active, and the event recorder enabled. I understand that the unit that caught fire was a former BNSF C30-7, is that correct? Normally those units wouldn't run too long with that big of an oil leak without tripping the low oil button. The report should be a good read later tonight, and when the final version is produced. Personally, I still suspect that this incident had some outside help.
