Very interesting-thank you.
As noted we can easily estimate the speed.
This article answers several questions and raises many more important new questions....
What did the MMA employee's at the scene do? At first MMA seemed to indicate that this was not the case??? Were the locomotives cut away, why were they founb separate beyond in tact and on the rail?
As with the speed, experts may also examine brake wear and mechanical factors, to determine how many, if any, hand brakes were actually set.
There is some "spin" to this story (exploding tank cars at high temps may not be related to fracking at all?), but this story is much more detailed and accurate than most of the coverage.
The use of "economic" deregulation to justify deregulation of the core legal principle's of ethical and responsible fiduciary and safety laws is the same nonsense that has lead to a 3.2 trillion dollar bank bailout here in the US.
As an economist, it has been my repeated concern that under the guise of "competitive economic deregulation" our politicians have also given away critical law enforcement powers over fiduciary and safety issues to fast talking folks, who line these politicians pockets with campaign money. Hence, we are now too often left shocked to discover that the fox has been quietly granted authority to "guard" the hen house?
