Be careful Bruce! You are starting to show your age - but then again getting older beats the alternative. Before you know it you will be teaching a grandkid how the zoom works.

Based on my experience, today's college graduate engineers keep trying to attach their I-pad to control everything. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the average electrician to accurately troubleshoot any of today's microprocessor equipped locomotives. Even after fighting past all the sensor and feedback circuits, you have no clue about how well the million lines of code or operating system might work. And modern industrial track is a nightmare - most model railroaders know not to create s-curves through switches on leads.

Too many of today's projects rely on consultants. They always find that something totally different must be created, so you have to hire the consultant to oversee the new design and project. Few of the new engineer's were ever taught the legacy of how we got here and think anything over 25 years old is obsolete - in part because they don't understand it. Try getting an engineer to sign off a pin connected truss.

Best of luck to your son in college. I hope he realizes that the common sense he inherited and practicable experience will be as valuable as his college degree.
