The alternative route looks unsatisfactory, in that it doesn't seem to connect any cities or towns. The best solution, and probably it would not cost more than one or two fighter-bombers, would be simply for Amtrak to buy the existing route, lock, stock, and semaphores, from Warren, who claims that he has no further need for it. The negotiations would be interesting. "Warren, it appears that it's worth nothing to you, so here's a coupon good for a Big Mac, how about it?"
The blogger remarks that a Congress that is poised to snatch food from the mouths of hungry Americans is probably not going to fork out for some new Amtrak capital expenses. The blogger has a point, regrettably.
