Rio Grande Scenic, FC&TSR anecdote

About a year and a half ago, I offered my last 40 hours of hard labor to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The assignment was to the new Antonito car rehab shop, on Friends property but with a connecting track.

One day, I was cleaning and lubricating the door hardware of two Pacific Car & Foundry steel refers that are for lumber and hardware storage. I remember watching those cars being built about a half century earlier, on property where Kenworth trucks are now being built in Renton. (near Boeing's narrow-body plant) Three semi-dumps arrived, wondering where to build the Rio Grande Scenic / Cumbres & Toltec Scenic passenger transfer station. A great deal of cellular telephone calling resolved the matter (there happens to be a major irrigation ditch running thru the property)

I was successful in cleaning and lubing the door hardware to the level that this ancient one could finally open and close them, and the transfer platform was built. The dome cars will be quite a contrast to the wooden narrow gauge cars.
