Remember making numerous trips thru the Loleta tunnel during the early 70's, most notably on the 3:30PM Scotia local out of Eureka. "Doe" Turner was the regular conductor, Ray "Gizmo" Moore the hoghead, Bailey Cooksey was one of the regular brakemen and the name of the second brakeman escapes me. The job had a regular caboose (1464 I think) that had fallen off the system and was kept in Eureka. I never explored the area around Loleta but was told there was a cemetery on top of the tunnel that produced the occasional ghost... never did see one, though. Sure glad I have those memories, because the Eureka-Arcata area just isn't the same anymore: anyone remember the funky little Mexican restaurant named "Mona's" or Marino's Club in Arcata?
