Jeff and Howard hit it on the nail. Eureka/Arcata maintain the tourist corridors. But the "new" waterfront is something that really never was. The university and government functions support the area. The morphed Palco and Simpson, Schmitbaur and R.H. Emerson & Son still produce forest products. The sense of "place" is gone, at least for me. Boarding #3 under steam for Petaluma after dinner at "Roy's" at 5th and Broadway is a lifetime away.
