The GE P30CH may not have been fun to operate, but they were fun to watch. I was part of a group of fans who used to hang out @ Espee Pomona on Friday nights. The GE " Pooches " were regular power on the Sunset, which would stop Eastbound @ Pomona any time between 11 PM and daybreak ( it's a long way from LA apparently ). Due to the HEP having its' own generator we could actually hear those 4-stroke FDL's throttle up, complete with a few sparks from the stack !!! On a clear evening with the Santa Ana winds blowing in off the desert, we could hear the train as far away as Ontario. Sweet memories...
