One time Number 1's two P30's burst into tears and gave up at West Palm Springs. As the East End Dispatcher that night I sent a 3-unit helper down from Apex to lend a hand. The helper crew was on short time but there was a chance we'd still make the incentive payment so we told them to step aside and have the assigned crew (SP at the time) to take over and keep moving. As 610 S Main wasn't too far away from LAUPT I headed over after my shift and watched the 5 units and about 7 or 8 cars pull into town. We didn't quite get there in time for the pay and I never did find out how the crew (or the engines) got home.
