I started riding the Daylight in 1962-3 between SJ and Glendale and I pretty distinctly remember the first time a Daylight scheme on the EMD unit which never re-appeared. From other sites I have gathered that the E units were solely for the Golden State, but perhaps not? Rode that train (99) in the evening up to SF many, many times while ploughing through San Jose State College, as was. It beat the Harriman subs and the frequent stops on the commute, even in the dark last days of downgrading on the SP.
