I purchased 10 acres of undeveloped land near Hauser, Idaho in 1991 for $30,000, with a great view of the Rathdrum Prairie and the BN mainline. Personally, from a living standpoint, I wouldn't have traded it for that apartment in SF....

There are a lot better places than that apartment in SF. I lived there 40-45 years ago and paid $400 a month for an unfurnished apartment near Kesar Stadium.

There is a nice house at Palmer Lake adjacent to the former Rio Grande line that I would go for in a heartbeat.... Many more too many to mention...
