SP Oil Tanks Special was the most dangerous

I met an SP Conductor at Hiland years ago (in the 1980s) at the top of Cajon Pass named BJ Price and he stated that the most dangerous train on SP at that time was the Shell Tank Train, known to most as the oil cans, but to one old SP Conductor (don't remember his name to save my life) that worked that train between Dolores and LA, the "Oil Tanks Special West" or "Oil Tanks Special East" (depending on what way he was going). This train at that time ran between Saco (North of Bakersfield (to some, "Bakerstown") to Dolores. Although I heard of small derailments with that train, I never heard of any major incidents. However, SP gave that train top priority, the only trains that had priority over it in both directions was, Amtrak, Metrolink and SP Passenger Trains. A current UP LA Locomotive Engineer I know who is also a railfan, told me at that time, that he was told that this train made the most money for SP, even more than Coal and Intermodal. I believed it!
