Ford ... interesting point is that using Federal transportation $$ to buy ANY vehicle (such as hybrids, cng, etc. with Fed air quality improvement $$) requires a "Buy America" waiver. That's because even if the vehicle is assembled here it's impossible to prove that everything - ESPECIALLY the steel - came from US producers. As pointed out about Siemens - they're assembled here but the parts are from all over, and the steel in particular (Fed law is anal about that) doesn't come from US steel mills any more (how many are left?) or at least you can't prove it to the Law's satisfaction. Siemens may be German company, but they do use a lot of US-produced parts and materials for Sacramento work.
