Cab Forward Windshield Wipers?

After asking many people and studying many photos, Ive realized that Cab Forward's didn't have windshield wipers. Ive noticed that some passenger steam engines did have them.

So heres my question: If Cab Forward's didn't have windshield wipers, what did they use so the engineer could see?
