Here's a little bit of info for you. To answer your question about mixed trains on the Patagonia Branch and Tombstopne Branch, it is like the same equipment was used on a third branch during the week, especially since they were in close proximity. From a 1940 Rio Grande Divisition ETT:

Tombstone Branch
Trains 940-941 Wednesday & Saturdays

Ft. Huachuca Branch
Trains 942-943 Tuesdays & Fridays

Calabasas Branch (Patagonia Branch)
Trains 945-946 Mondays & Thursdays

The last train operations on the Tombstone Branch were conmducted on Aug. 13, 1960.
