1) They have to get off Metrolink trackage as soon as possible, the San Bernardino line is busy every day.
2) They can keep all other traffic off the Alhambra Sub for the day. Compare that to dozens and dozens of trains on BNSF between San Bernardino and Colton.
3) Gets them back to UP Owned rails faster.
