New UP Siding Work

Union Pacific had been doing some ROW work along its former Graham Line, which parallels Interstate 84 heading in and out of Portland. It now appears that the work was in preparation for the addition of a passing siding. I've seen stacks of rails and crossties in the work area, and there is now a new signal installed at CP Rockwood (just east of NE 181st Avenue) with two eastward-facing heads.

The east end of the siding would be right about where the line passes over NE 162nd Avenue, and the west end just east of the overpass above the I-84/I-205 interchange. This is a stretch of about two miles.
