And there may even be an 1840s steam locomotive in there!

I saw that on the news, and watched a video
about the tunnel, and read what the Brooklyn
Railroad Historical Association had on its
website about the tunnel. Fascinating!
That tunnel really should be reopened and
made accessible to people -- and someone really
should excavate behind that wall at the end to
see if there really is an 1840s steam locomotive
buried there. FWIW -- someone a while ago used
some sort of modern metal-detecting instrument and
DID find something the size of the locomotive that
is supposedly buried down there.
That locomotive -- if she is really there and is not
just a pile of rust -- would be an incredibly valuable
historic treasure. I'd love her to be cosmetically
restored and displayed in some appropriate place.
(indoors, of course!)
Bob Diamond, the man who discovered that tunnel, really
deserves a lot of credit and support.
This whole thing is fascinating -- the world's oldest
subway tunnel -- and maybe a very old steam locomotive, too!
