FWIW...

When I watched 844 arrive at CSRM (last year?) on the new lead, the diesels (SD70MACs, I think) ran through fine (if slowly) coupled to 85' passenger cars, but 844's tender derailed at what was probably a kink. The main engine went through fine, after the rerailing, with a much longer wheelbase than SDs - though probably with some lateral motion allowed in the driver bearings.

Suspect kink. Track crew relaid some of the lead before the train left the following week and all departed in good shape.
