Ken --
Thank you VERY much for these fascinating stories.
I wish I had been a railfan back then, because I
would surely have gone on that marvelous excursion
then. Talk about the "every inch" principle"! LOL!
What FUN!

Is Gordenev still with us?

NorCal was a fun club back in the 80s and 90s. Loved
their Muni excursions! I remember one in 1982, which
was run as the last PCC trip ever in San Francisco, as
everyone was sure that PCCs were definitely going to be
gone after that excursion. (Thank heavens.we were wrong!)

The trip left from the Transbay Terminal (I think)
at 9 pm, and we ran over every Muni line,. There was
a regularly-scheduled run with a PCC which we played
cat-and-mouse with. We were followed by that PCC

You see, we each wanted to be on the last PCC into the
barn at Geneva. Well, that other PCC was behind us,
and would, therefore,, be the last PCC into that barn.
But we had a plan: We ran out the L Taraval line to the
beach, but did not go quite all the way to the loop near
the beach. Instead, we pulled into a small wye very close
to the street the L Taraval runs on (Is that Taraval?) a block
away from the loop near the beach, and turned off the lights,
and get quiet and waited for the other car

Sure enough, after a little while, along came the other PCC.
We held our breaths, and ithe car went right past us, ran around the
loop, and headed back to the Geneva car barn. After a short
while, we followed, and pulled into the barn at around 2:30 am --
thinking we were on the LAST PCC to ever run in San Francisco.

I am very happy this was NOT the last time a PCC carried paying
passengers in The City, but it was, nonetheless, a wonderful trip,
with lots of camaraderie.
