Ocotillo, that brings back memories.

In April of '76, I was poking around that end of the SD&AE and then decided to head over to Ferrum to catch the Eagle Mtn. Saw a headlight in the distance and it turned out to be a westbound with a Cottom Belt GP-30 on the point. Got it at Ocotillo, another place on a fill and finally at Silica near Coyote Wells. Wish I'd known more about the line as Hurricane Kathleen came along a few months later and the railroad was never the same after that. Did get over to Ferrum that afternoon and caught the red GEs in great afternoon light.

Was back there again in the mid 80's with a motorcar. Ended up putting it on the rail right down the street from the sheriffs office, but got away with it. We went west but couldn't get into the Gorge account of a huge sand drift in one of the cuts. Had a nice ride though, even tiptoeing the car over a washout with the rail suspended 6 feet in the air. Also got buzzed by a low flying chopper, likely looking for drug trafficers/illegals. We waved and they waved back.
