"Word on the street" is that the alarm system did what it was supposed to do, which is to notify the California State Parks Ranger who has the duty to respond. The Ranger apparently did not respond immediately. Rumor is this was because the alarm system is prone to false alarms, but it would be nice if the Museum Director would confirm or deny this rumor, and set things straight with respect to the public's desire to know what really happened. It's not too much of a stretch to think that repeated false alarms could help burglars establish a strategy for breaking in.
