True enough, but them roosters also had the good sense to just get up earlier during the longer days of summer - rather than trifle with the reckoning of time.
I can tell you, that back in the day when I had to change the punch clocks twice a year, at every station in the division, that I had employees reporting to; it WAS one big fat hairy pain in the arse!
There were of course, some railroads that were smarter than that, and just stuck to standard time. Maybe they took advise from some old rooster.
After being promoted to signal engineer, and I didn't have to do that anymore, it still remained a big pain in the neck. And now, after retirement - I find it taking a week or so just to adjust the circadian rhythm of the body after the time change. Gettin' old ain't for the faint of heart!
Or maybe we should just make up our minds, as to what the hell time it is - and be done with it. Permanent daylight time as standard, probably ain't such a bad idea; or maybe we could just get up with the chickens, like any sensible creature would do.
