To add to the comparrisons...Coos Bay actually still has a lot of forest products traffic base, and the line was "just" run down, not obliterated in many places like the POTB.

At the end, POTB essentially served three shippers, the Hampton mill in Tillamook, the smaller mill in Garibaldi, and the inbound livestock feed. Of those, perhaps only the dairy people are actually missing the railroad...Hampton (the largest shipper) showed ambivolence at best as to whether or not they had rail service, and they've actually closed a mill in the Willamette Valley that did have rail service in the years since POTB closed, while the Tillamook mill continues running.
