Having been in the motorcar hobby for 10+ years now and collecting what I can regarding the hobby...I present my US&S MC-I or Motorcar Indicator Operating Unit along with some other photos from Albina Yard in Portland, Cheney Washington, the Deschutes River bridge, OR, West North Dalles, WA, and an unknown location on the UP.

I remember as a child seeing these motorcar indicators along the UP east of Portland all the way to at least the Deschutes River bridge. I learned how to read them on I-84 between MP 1 and Rockwood as being a passenger in the folks car I would watch each pair of them mounted on the aspect signal poles seeing them all vertical (clear). I could tell when I was going to see something up ahead on the rails by one of two indicators would show horizontal (occupied).
