That's exactly what the Timber Heritage people have been trying to do for years, decades! But the momentum in Humboldt County is just not there. Even the remains of the timber Industry don't seem to offer much support, and it's their equipment. It's truly a miracle they got the recent concession from the Harbor District. Roots is another matter. The Mendocino County Museum and Roots seem to have a lot of support as a regional museum. I would be surprised if the region could support two similar museums given the headstart of Roots in Willits. Visitor base is only 140 miles away in the Bay Area and it's unlikely people would travel another 140 miles to see pretty much the same thing. You've also got the rail hub in Willits. I've often thought it would so great to have Timber Heritage and Roots join forces. What a museum that would be!

By the way, I saw the railroad between Arcata and Samoa last week. Between last years storm damage and what looks like recent equipment damage to remove brush and improve drainage on nearby dairyland it would all have to be rebuilt to move anything. It's not even fit for motorcars now.
