Anyone know the progress on rebuilding the tunnels south of Ashland Oregon?
No idea. Things seem to have gone quiet up there.
Would they be capable of allowing maximum clearances for such as double stack loads?
No. The clearance issues, at least on the pass, are in the two tunnels on the decent down the north side of the summit.
Is it possible that should UP suffer another disastrous landslide in the Cascades..in the future, would it be possible for UP and AMTRAK to use CORP as a detour rather than BNSF or running from Portland to LA by way of SLC?
Highly doubtfull...same clearance issues in the two tunnels. It might be possible for UP to run empty centerbeam cars north as they did one time last time...but the line probably can't handle much more than that in its current state.
