Curious that a mudslide in the Oregon Cascades managed to do something that the Southern Pacific wanted to do for years--stop passenger rail service between the Bay Area and the LA basin via the Coast Route.
A suggestion: return to the initial Amtrak period when a Bay Area to LA train was operated on those days when the then tri-weekly Starlight did not operate. The numbers of those two stub trains were the same as the old Coast Daylight--98 and 99.
