Web,
While the Delta Queen does have the Delta King's wheel on her now, that picture is of her own wheel taken off for the ocean tow. The DK's wheel was shipped back east in the 60s, along with the DK's engines and other spares that were left at the Anitoch boatyard when the DK was sent to Alaska to be a dormitory. At the time the DQ needed one engine for emergency repairs and the other parts were purchased "just because" -- but years later, a crack was discovered in the DQ's wheel shaft, and the "spare" was taken out of storage and installed. The DQ's original shaft is on display at the Howard Steamboat Museum near Louisville, KY.(actually across the river from Louisville, I just don't remember the name of the town).
We appreciate your support!
Save the Delta Queen!!
