In the 1970s, WP laid 136# CWR between Stockton and Sacramento, but apparently it was put in when the ambient temperature was too cold. On hot summer days, trains were restricted to 40mph on this section. Once you passed Sacramento and got back on the old 115# jointed rail, it was back to 60mph.
