I have several Morning Sun books in my library. Their quality varies greatly.
The best I have is Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway In Color. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in the DM & IR.
One of the biggest disappointments is The Milwaukee Road In Color. Volume 2: The City of Milwaukee. Aside from one photo of a locomotive near a Schlitz elevator, there are no photos of operations serving any of Milwaukee's breweries!!! A much better book covering the same geographic area, albeit with all black-and-white photos, is Jim Scribbins' book, The Milwaukee Road in its Hometown. This book gives sufficient coverage to Milwaukee Road's Beer Line and operations at breweries.
With respect to Milwaukee Road's electric lines, I recommend Noel Holley's book The Milwaukee Road Electrics. This is a fine technological history with many good photographs.
I am generally satisfied with the quality of books published by Signature Press, Golden West, White River Productions and the University of Minnesota Press. Howell-North was a very high quality publisher, but I think they are no longer in business.
