Long before this drought situation existed the Cal Am water company who provides water to the Monterey peninsula was told by the PCC or someone like that that after 2015 they could no longer pump out of the Carmel river (to save the steelhead) and had to demolish the silt filled San Clemente dam and find another source of water. You would not believe the byzantine convoluted crap that has gone on over this issue and the prospect of a desal plant in either Marina or Moss Landing and the EIR wars, "commissions", "agencies", politics, corruption, conflict of interest, finger pointing, expensive ballot issues and the costs thereto attached----------unbelievable. And of course as we all strive to conserve Cal Am will suddenly cry poor because of lower water bills and duly raise the rates------------------what a farce.
