Interesting to hear about the distributors problem. Although at WinCo the other magazines seem to be showing up OK - just not Trains.
Delivery on CDs or DVDs has the advantage of bandwidth. You can't beat the bandwidth of a UPS truck full of DVDs (except with a bigger truck; this quip originated in the 1950s as "you can't beat the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes"). But in terms of latency - yes, there's the instant gratification issue. For similar price, if it's not something I Need Right This Second for a project, I'll often let it be shipped; my Internet connection isn't the fastest or most reliable around (typical telco in other words). For archive purposes, I would prefer a DVD or CD; if I downloaded it I would probably make multiple backups and/or (probably and) burn to a DVD or CD anyway.
